Week 1: Introduction

Week 1: Prestons Introduction. Hi class, my name is Preston and this is my second year at SRJC. Im currently enrolled in the SRJC Police Academy at the Windsor campus. Its a 5 month full time program Mon- Fri 7-4 pm. Im really enjoying the academy so far, keep in mind Ive only completed my second day. Im taking this course because my educational goal is to continue on with my education and go to a CSU. Im not sure if I want to major in criminal justice or something else. I spend a lot of my free time excercising, especially running, with my 4 year old pit bull, and with my girlfriend and friends. I love Mexican food and Im down to try anything new!. I hope to walk away with this course with a better understanding and knowledge of english. I know English is one of those subjects that I will use in my future, and will also be useful in the police force. Cant wait to read all your blogs. Thank you, Preston.

  1. hey man,
Thats cool your in the police academy. I went through the Fire Academy at the windsor campus a couple years ago. Do you already have a job offer? Seems like alot of police departments are sponsering people to go through the program.
Did you take all your AJ classes at SRJC? If you did, do you happen to know Professor/ Retired Cop Ray Hill? He volunteers at Bodega Bay Fire Department where I work.

  2. I applied for the CHP but didn't have a chance to make it to the academy. They have you take a few test which the dates were assign and I couldn't make it due to work so they had to keep on rescheduling me to the point I just hold off and put it to the side. I was in the Marines so I thought being in the law enforcement would work for me. Good luck in the academy

  3. Hi Preston,
I've heard great things about SRJC's Police Academy; that it’s a top-notch program that trains its students well. Good for you for getting in! Good luck!

English is definitely a skill that you’ll use in the police force. I'm glad you're taking this online class!

  6. Thank you for the wonderful complements. I was inspired to post a picture after seeing the lovely picture of you and your girlfriend. Is that San Francisco in the background? I heard the SRJC has a great police academy. A friend of mine graduated several years ago and continued her education at UC Davis. She wanted to be a CSI. A lot of people don’t know that graduating from the police academy opens the door for a lot of careers. It sounds like you have figured that out and is on the road to an exciting career.

  9. English is everywhere, like math. You use it all the time. There are so many things to learn regarding english. With a criminal justice major that will be very important. There are so many ways to interpret words, whether it's tone or just rearranging the words alone. I originally started out with a crimincal justice major. It just too deep for me. Too much memorization. Good luck with that. That takes mad skill.
